The Butterfield Overland Mail was the first mail movement from East Coast to the West Coast.  Communications changed the world and caused California to become a state.  The Butterfield Stage Line & Overland Mail ran from  1858-1861. Starting in Tipton, MO , and continuing down to Arkansas.  This Marker stands in Butterfield Park, Cole Camp, MO.
